Large scale QR Code Marking on Curved PC Backplates

In high-end computer manufacturing, the QR code on the backplate is a crucial identifier for product traceability and quality management. Traditional marking methods often face challenges like unclear marks and inconsistent depth due to focal length variations when processing large, curved backplates. In this case, in close collaboration with our equipment integrator partner, FEELTEK 3D laser technology provided a laser processing solution for a renowned manufacturer.

Key Challenge

Curved Surface Adaptation:
the monitor backplate has a certain curvature, making it difficult for a standard laser focus to maintain consistency across the entire marking area.

Precision Requirements:
the QR code required precise positioning within a large 500mm x 500mm area while ensuring readability at any point.

Process Stability:
consistent results were needed for high-speed, batch production.

Structure Requirement:
the QR code has a relatively small overall size, with a maximum dimension of only 20mm, placing higher demands on marking precision and edge definitio

 

Solution by FEELTEK and system integrators

Core Technology Application:
Utilizing FEELTEK’s specialized 3D Dynamic Focus Technology, the focal point position is adjusted in real-time via program control, perfectly adapting to the backplate curvature and ensuring uniform energy distribution across the entire field.

Key Pre-processing Considerations:

Collaborating with the integrator, we obtained and imported the precise 3D model of the monitor for laser path planning and focus compensation.

Conducted joint parameter pre-research and simulation based on material properties.

Process Optimization: 
Utilizing a UV 355nm laser with the FEELTEK FR20-U 3D scanhead achieves fine-spot cold processing, minimizing thermal melting to ensure sharp QR code edges and a heat-affected-free substrate.

Marking Quality Control:

Achieved consistent marking depth and clear contrast on the curved surface through the 3D dynamic laser technology from FEELTEK.

Ensured uniform line quality for the QR code across the entire backplate (including edges and center), enabling reliable scanning and recognition.

Enabling processing across different areas of the entire backplate in a single operation, thereby saving multiple focusing adjustments and improving overall efficiency.
